Social Contribution Activities

Why does an insurance company makes social contributions?

We offer 'Safety and Security' to customers through its core business in insurance, striving to protect social prosperity and comfort. Moreover, we engage in activities outside the insurance field. This reflects its belief that, as a good corporate citizen, it is equally important to take part in social contribution activities on a comprehensive basis.

Background

In the 1990s, corporations faced dual expectations of pursuing profits while conducting activities beneficial to public welfare. In these circumstances, we conducted a comprehensive review of basic policies and internal systems for response to social contributions. We determined to strengthen our initiatives in such activities.

In 1992, we set up the 'Corporate Philanthropy Committee' in our office to make a study of desirable social contributions from many perspectives. As a result, in 1993 the 'Corporate Philanthropy Section' was established within the Corporate Administration Department as the exclusive organization responsible for social contribution activities. Full-scale activities started at that time and our positive position in such activities was expressly stated in new management policies established in the same year. In 1997, the 'Corporate Philanthropy Section' was reorganized into the 'Corporate Philosophy&Environmental Presentation Section' to also promote initiatives for environmental protection.

In October 2004, we enlarged our corporate social activities, changing the name of our 'Social Environment Section' to the 'CSR Section' to indicate our expanding response to social responsibility. We continue to expand our activities in this area.
