History of Former Nichido Fire
The predecessor of Nichido Fire was Tokyo Article Fire Insurance, which was established in 1898. In January 1914, Japan Personal Property Fire Insurance ("JPPFI"; President/Doctor of Law Kiyosuke Awatsu), which sold basic fire insurance covering movable household property, was established. JPPFI continued to grow steadily and built a solid business base in Tokyo and surrounding areas because the structure and simplicity of its main product, "monthly fire insurance offering a no-accident refund," met the needs of corporate customers and workers in these areas. JPPFI changed its company name to Nichido Fire & Marine Insurance Co., Ltd. after the war, and expanded its sales channels in the retail market, mainly for fire, savings-type, and car insurance, during and after the period of rapid growth. After the Insurance Business Act was revised in 1995, Nichido Life Insurance Company, Limited was established in 1996. In April 2002, Millea Holdings, Inc. (currently Tokio Marine Holdings, Inc.) was established through a management integration with Tokio Marine. In October 2004, Tokio Marine and Nichido Fire merged.
